Both the rails and slate beds are covered with 21–24-ounce billiard cloth (although some less expensive 19-ounce cloths are available) which is most often green in colour (representing the grass of the original lawn games from which billiards evolved), and consists of either a woven wool or wool- nylon blend called baize. Cloth īilliard cloth (sometimes erroneously called felt) is a specific type of cloth that covers the top of the table's "playing area". for children's recreation rooms) still include wood, especially medium-density fibreboard and plywood, as well as plastics and other synthetic materials under various trade names. Today, inexpensive but not very rigid or durable materials used for the beds of low-end tables (e.g. The early table beds were made of cloth-covered wooden boards. Tables for the home market usually use slate beds as well, but the slate is often thinner, down to about + 1⁄ 2 inch (13 mm). When several pieces of slate are joined poorly it is possible for the resin to deform and cause an uneven playing surface it can also be difficult to move once joined. The gap between slates is filled with a hard-drying putty, epoxy or resin, then sanded to produce a seamless surface, before being covered with the cloth. Small pool tables may use only one or two pieces of slate, while carom, English billiards and tournament-size pool tables use three. The bed table – the cloth-covered, horizontal playing surface – is, on high-quality equipment, made of solid, smooth slabs of slate, most often from Italy, Brazil or China. Snooker tables use an L-shaped profile, such as the L77 profile. K-55 cushions have cloth, usually canvas, vulcanized into the top of the rubber to adjust rebound accuracy and speed. On a carom table, the K-55 profile is used (with a somewhat sharper angle than pool cushions). When installed properly the distance from the nose of the cushion to the covered slate surface is 1 + 7⁄ 16 inches (37 mm) while using a regulation 2 + 1⁄ 4-inch (57 mm) ball set. The standard on American pool tables is the K-66 profile, which as defined by the Billiard Congress of America (BCA) has a base of 1 + 3⁄ 16 inches (30 mm) and a nose height of 1 inch (25 mm). The profile of the rail cushion, which is the cushion's angle in relation to the bed of the table, varies between table types. The purpose of the cushion rubber is to cause the billiard balls to rebound off the rubber while minimizing the loss of kinetic energy. These cushions are made from an elastic material such as vulcanized rubber (gum or synthetic). There are several different materials and design philosophies associated with cushion rubber. : 27 Parts and equipment Cushions Ĭushions (also sometimes called "rail cushions", "cushion rubber", or rarely "bumpers") are located on the inner sides of a table's wooden rails. An obsolete term is billiard board, used in the 16th and 17th centuries. : 115, 238 More specific terms are used for specific sports, such as snooker table and pool table, and different-sized billiard balls are used on these table types. In the modern era, all billiards tables (whether for carom billiards, pool, pyramid or snooker) provide a flat surface usually made of quarried slate, that is covered with cloth (usually of a tightly woven worsted wool called baize), and surrounded by vulcanized rubber cushions, with the whole thing elevated above the floor. Brunswick & Bro., Proprietors, Cincinnati, Ohio, 1865 adĪ billiard table or billiards table is a bounded table on which cue sports are played. I’m somewhat technically challenged so when I reached out to the this app developer, I received the same day response to my questions. this app instantly syncs what I upload from my PC to my iPhone VOX even has an excellent parametric equalizer that helps me adjust my music to the listening environment. Don’t let anyone tell you that there’s no difference there is a big sound quality difference. Now, with a little help from an Apple compatible DAC, I listen to music in all of its glory. I found free software from the web and I’m ripping all my CDs in FLAC format and uploading them to my this app library. I heard about high-definition music but when I found out I needed special software to play it I just gave up. I have a good sound system but so much sound quality is lost in compressed formats. I synced my library with I-Tunes, but my music library had been ripped in MP3 format. Over the years, I went from listening to LP, to CD to my iPhone. Very satisfied with the this app Music Player. Those of us that are older, on fixed incomes, and have hearing loss need to be able to tailor the sound without feeling as if we are being held hostage to a subscription scheme. So, I implore you to please simply move the EQ function back over the threshold to the free version. And that’s OK, but they won’t last forever. For now, I am forever locked into listening on older devices. And if you significantly upgrade, I’ll pay for an upgrade if I think I need it. Just make it a player with the EQ, as the version I have on my iOS9 devices has. Please come up with a third buying option. I don’t need all the other bells and whistles. I’ve said I’d gladly pay once for a version that has the EQ. A core function of this software that you offered for free was removed and put in the subscription version. I appreciate the developer’s review, but my review stands. UPDATE - RESPONSE TO DEVELOPER’S RESPONSE: Please - separate VOX from the sub features and let those who don’t need all the cloud feature just buy VOX. That is the antiquated cable tv model everyone hates. But $50 a year with a zillion features that I don’t need? Nah. I’d pay $50 for the this app app to have that. But then they bundled the EQ in with their subscription service. It was the only one offering a parametric EQ. Once upon a time, this app was a great app. You said it best yourself, “.our price model is not perfect.” Thoughtful gesture but I don’t see you trying to perfect it. Update (in response to developer reply): Too late. I advise you do the same if you have already made the foolish decision to download it as I did. Including giving you nothing until you subscribe. These guys are super greedy and will do anything to get your cash. A little advice - if you want to sell your tasty snack to new customers you need to give out a free sample. How are we supposed to know how good your product is? Not sure what good VOX is unless you give them cash. Several every single day! Really? FYI, you get NO features unless you go premium - none, not even a little taste of how their app is supposed to make your music experience better, instead they just tell you via annoying emails. Constant emails trying to sell you their premium package. and I’m supposed to trust you by subscribing? How much are you charging per year? That’s right a ridiculous inflated amount for features nobody wants. It appears as well that they don’t have a good handle on grammar. The app also has music management and easy transfer features such as WiFi music transfer, iTunes files sharing, playlist management, and simple music queue management.īefore downloading, and please if you are considering a subscription, read the responses by these developers. VOX Music Cloud is available for premium subscribers, which offers unlimited music cloud storage for your music collections, sync all your music across all your devices, original quality playback, and offline music streaming. The app also has advanced audio features such as playback FX, bass booster, gapless playback support, stream music via AirPlay, parametric equalizer with 30 presets, CarPlay support, Sonos support, and BS2B. The app is an all-in-one audio player with all your favorite music sources, including iTunes music library, personal FLAC and MP3 music collection, Qobuz, SoundCloud®, Spotify, online radio with 30,000+ radio stations worldwide, and Last.FM scrobbling. It supports all popular formats including Hi-Res ones and uses a custom-made audio engine based on BASS™. What is VOX? The VOX Music Player is a lossless music player app that allows users to play any audio files from their entire music collection. There's also the option of tacking on a paid spam filter in front of whatever email provider if you need something stronger or with more features (eg. But other providers do end up with pretty good filtering once you've spent some time classifying mail as it comes in. Gmail does still have the best out of the box spam filtering experience, and I think that's unlikely to change. If you're okay using a web client, or logging into a web client whenever you need to set server-side rules (this is what I do with iCloud), then more options are available and I would recommend trialing Fastmail to get a feel for their interface and features. If you want to be able to set server-side rules from a desktop client, Outlook/Office 365 is one of the only games in town. You can find good third-party desktop clients (like the previously mentioned Airmail), but one feature that will nearly always be missing is the ability to set server-side rules. Many providers focus only on the web client, or a web plus mobile client. I'm now on iCloud mail since they added support for custom email domains.Ĭonsider if you'd be happy using a web client on desktop, or if you require a native application. I used Fastmail for some 8 years and Tuffmail (now defunct) before that. If you are very worried about security, Fastmail is based in Australia, with servers in the US and thus part of the "5 eyes" network of surveillance. I had a 25% off discount and signed for the 3 years after the trial. With this combination, I can use "masked email" addresses to never have to give out the main/personal one to websites. I purchased a domain and using Fastmail as the provider and with 1Password integration. And what I have done more recently, my own email. It is a 3rd party client, but I believe it will satisfy most of the requirements you are asking in a mail client.Ģ. I'm also considering using our own email domain. I'm not opposed to having using an iCloud but am open to a complete re-boot, so to speak. So while I'm currently in the Apple walled garden I've realized there is no reason that my email should stay there. Google has the best features but not private. I spend most of time blocking a never-ending stream of email senders randomly changing addresses. What I dislike about Apple Mail is lack of server side rules, poor junk mail filtering, and poor search, poor spam filtering. Currently I have an iCloud email address. Who is providing your current E-Mail service? Are you asking for alternative mail clients / software, or alternative E-Mail service providers? Apple's mail is just a client. If you can find a source for metadata online, you can save a regular bibliographic item using the Save to Zotero button and drag the attachment item onto the new item. If Zotero isn't able to retrieve metadata for the PDF, you'll be left with just the standalone attachment. For other documents, while Zotero can sometimes extract basic information (title, author), you shouldn't expect that - anything can be distributed as a PDF, but that doesn’t mean there’s any standard metadata available for it. This should work well for most academic PDFs (though it may sometimes yield lower-quality metadata than using the Save to Zotero button on the article page). When you add a PDF directly, Zotero will initially save it as a standalone attachment and then automatically attempt to retrieve metadata for it and create a parent item. Standalone attachments can't have bibliographic metadata or child notes, so in most cases you'll want to convert them to child items under regular parent items. You can also add an attachment to an existing item by clicking the paperclip button in the Zotero toolbar and selecting “Attach Stored Copy of File…” or “Attach Link to File…”, or you can add a standalone attachment by clicking the green plus sign ( ) and choosing “Store Copy of File…” or “Link to File…”.Īttachments can be either child items or standalone attachments. If you have a local PDF or other file on your computer - for example, if you received a file via email - you can drag it to Zotero, either onto an existing item to create a child attachment or between items to create a standalone attachment. If there's no primary webpage, you can click the Save to Zotero button while viewing the PDF in your browser to save the PDF directly. The Save to Zotero button will usually save high-quality metadata and also automatically download the relevant PDF if you have access to it. If a website isn't importing properly, please report it on the Zotero Forums and provide the webpage URL.Īs explained above, when possible, we recommend saving items using the Save to Zotero button in your browser from the primary webpage (e.g, a journal article's abstract page) rather than adding PDFs directly. You can choose an alternative translator by right-clicking on the Zotero save button (or the page background in Safari) and choosing one of the supplied options. Zotero will generally choose the best translator available for each site automatically. For example, importing an item from the publisher website will generally yield much better data than importing from Google Scholar. Metadata for the same item may vary in quality across sites providing it. (For more information, see our compatible websites list.) By default, translator updates are automatically installed, independent of Zotero updates. Zotero recognizes almost all library catalogs, most news sites, research databases and scientific publishers. For many sites, Zotero has website-specific “translators” to obtain the best quality metadata. Other websites provide only limited metadata (e.g., only the title of a blog post) or no metadata at all. Some websites provide very high-quality data using a standard way to provide Zotero with data (via embedded metadata). If you don’t like how it turns out, you can always use Command+Z and try it again. The quality of the data Zotero imports is determined by the information supplied on the webpage. Step 4: Once you are satisfied with your naming decision, click the Rename button to enact the changes. I recommend starting with 10 since the rename utility doesn’t let you pad a leading zero for single digit numbers. If you choose one of the numerical values, you can also apply a starting number. You can choose to do so after the name, or before the name. The Where dropdown box lets you choose where to add the differentiator. You can do so by adding an index number, counter or date. The Name and Format dropdown box lets you choose how you wish to differentiate the files. This allows you to give the batch of files an entire new base name. Use the Custom Format box to insert the base name of the files. Step 3: You can use any of the dropdown boxes to establish renaming rules however you would like, but I personally like using Format instead of Add Text or Replace Text for the renaming style. This will open the Rename Finder Items box. Step 2: Right click, and select Rename Items. Step 1: Select the files that you wish to rename. Instead of relying on a third party app, use this handy tip to quickly rename a batch of files without breaking a sweat. Renaming multiple files can be a tedious process when doing so manually, but the Finder in OS X can make it easier to rename a batch of files at once on your Mac. But Apple being Apple, once this feature rolls out officially, I’m sure it’s going to work flawlessly.Ģ. macOS 10.15 Catalina on your Mac and iPad OS on your iPad, both of them not yet released to the public. Once connected, you can use your iPad as a mirrored desktop or secondary display. Also, both iPad and Mac should be under the same iCloud account. Just like Duet Display, Apple’s Sidecar works directly with a wired connection or wirelessly via Bluetooth. Read: Best Youtube alternative apps for iPhone/iPad Duet Display Alternatives 1. But nonetheless, they still do something out of the box, which is why they made into the list. Some of the apps in the list are not an exact replacement of Duet Display, as they are more likely to mirror your computer display to iPad rather than using it as the second display. And today, we are going to see some of the best Duet Display alternatives. But would you wanna burn a hole in your pocket for this? We’ve always tried to offer some of the best yet, lesser known products that you can use as alternatives. The app is on top of the list no doubt but comes for a price of $20. It is the most popular app that lets you use your iPad as a second display for your MacBook. If you’ve ever felt a need of a secondary display, you’d have definitely come across Duet Display. Unfortunately, it also stands out with its price, since the annual subscription is way more expensive than Disk Drill’s lifetime license. This data recovery software for Windows stands out with its support for over 1,000 file signatures, allowing it to recover even more obscure files (the vendor fails to provide any details on these 1,000 formats, though). You might want to give it a try-just don’t expect too much and remember that far more feature-packed solutions do exist. The free version of Recuva used to be great for addressing more straightforward data loss scenarios because of its unlimited nature, but the lack of attention it has received in recent years from its developers is starting to show - its data recovery features have not been updated since 2016. Unlike its competitors, Disk Drill doesn’t use a subscription pricing model, so you don’t have to pay over and over again to keep using it. His 1986 comeback album, The Art of Excellence, was a hit from which he never looked back. Ditching the Las Vegas circuit for New York and reuniting with his early 60s pianist and musical director Ralph Sharon proved to be masterstrokes. The turning point in his life came when Bennett hired his son Danny to be his manager. Yet two albums recorded with pianist Bill Evans would be key to his later re-emergence as a central figure in US music. The following decade saw him face a number of personal problems, including the end of his second marriage and serious drug addiction. The song won Bennett two Grammy awards and became a 20th-century pop standard.īennett’s style, however, was already looking outdated as the British invasion swept the US charts, and he struggled for relevance during the 1960s.
